Commission to Promote Rapid Transit for the City of Boston and Its Suburbs is established.

Its members include John Quincy Adams, great-grandson and grandson of the presidents, and Col. Henry Lee Higginson. Its purpose is to make recommendations on how best to meet the city’s mass transportation needs and it releases a report in 1892.*
